Vishakhapatnam, 17-21 Nov 2016
Day 3: England got the start on day 3 as Ben Stokes (70) and Jonny Bairstow (53) added 110 runs for the sixth wicket. Stokes and Bairstow dominated the first session; Umesh Yadav finally gave the opening when he cleaned up the Bairstow with a fuller delivery. Having completed his 12th Test half-century with a boundary against Yadav a couple of overs ago, Bairstow was trampled by pace as he tried to work the ball away before it gunned into his leg stump after nibbling his pad. Now it was Ashwin’s turn, which curved the tables on the visitors with his 22nd five-wicket haul in Test cricket. Visitors crumbled to 255/10 giving lead of 200 runs to hosts in 1st innings. When India batted, England smacked early with Stuart Broad taking wickets of both the openers making full use of the DRS to eliminate both the openers Murali Vijay 3 and KL Rahul 10, who failed in both of his innings. Then Anderson eradicated Cheteshwar Pujara on just 1 run to diminish India to 40/3 within 17 over’s. Till the end of the day no more damage done to India batting line up as Kohali (56*) and Rahane (22*) added 58* runs on the board and still on the crease. While the pitch has not deteriorated extremely, but batting on fourth and fifth day will be calculative and Captain Kohli would like to take charge and set up a goal beyond the reach of the visitors, who will be batting fourth.
