We all know that South African teams are an inconceivable team in world of Cricket but still it is called with the name of chokers. All this started for South Africa from world cup 1992. South African team always gets choked in the big games as they can’t handle pressure and get crumbled in those situations. Here is the list of illustrious incidents in which South African team get choked and South Africa don’t want remember these before the Virtual Quarter Final with Indian team in ICC Champions Trophy 2017.
Sydney, Australia: 1992 World Cup semi-final vs England,
South Africa team was chasing 253 runs and at the end they require 22 from 13 balls and suddenly rain interrupted the match and Duckworth/Lewis method came into play and South African team was given an impossible task of 22 runs on just 1 ball. This is more of stealing of the game by rain less by opponents.
Karachi, Pakistan: 1996 World Cup quarter final Vs. West Indies:
Before the start of this match South African team was in great form as they have won previous 10 ODI’s and SA was given target of 265 runs from 50 overs. The team got really good starts and were batting brilliantly. At one stage their score was 186/3 but suddenly Cronje got out and wickets start falling and SA lost its last 7 wickets in just 59 runs.
Edgbaston, England: 1999 World Cup, semi-final v Australia
Who can forget the 1999 world cup semi finals? South Africa needed 9 runs to win from the final over. Lance Klusener was playing well and hit the four on first two balls, leaving just one run to seal his side’s place in the final. However, a horrific mix-up with last man Allan Donald led to a dramatic run out which cost the South African their place in the finals.
Durban, South Africa: 2003 World Cup, group match v Sri Lanka,
Another rain-interrupted game saw Mark Boucher block out what turned out to be the final ball thinking the hosts were ahead on Duckworth/Lewis calculations. He played the last ball casually and didn’t run. Instead, the teams were tied; Boucher the victim of an incorrect message from the South African dressing room and play stopped there and didn’t resume SA lost.
Gros Islet, Saint lucia: 2007 World Cup semi final Vs. Australia
South Africa scored just 149 runs and Australia scored it down pretty easily.
Dhaka, Bangladesh: 2011 World Cup quarter final Vs. New Zealand
South African team again crumbled while chasing the target of 222 runs. They were at 108/2 at one stage but lost the match by 64 runs.
Auckland, New Zealand: 2015 World Cup semi final Vs. New Zealand
SA scored 281 runs 43 overs (rain curtailed match). As per D/L method, New Zealand needed 298 from 43 overs. SA brought the match till the last over. NZ needed 6 of last 2 balls. Grant Elliot hit a six to Dayle Steyn.

In 2002 and 2006, they lost in the semi-finals, and 2009 they fell in the group stage even qualify for the next stage.
