On This Day, 2012: Sachin Tendulkar scored “100th International Hundred”

On This Day Sachin Tendulkar become the first player to score 100 International hundreds.  He is the leading run scorer in the history of both Test and ODI cricket, achieved the much awaited ton by taking a single off Shakib Al Hasan against Bangladesh in Asia Cup. Tendulkar’s century came off 138 deliveries

Although the day belonged to Tendulkar, but Bangladesh won the Asia Cup group match by five wickets with four balls remaining and reached their victory target of 290 in the final over.

This was Tendulkar’s first 3 figure score since March 2011 and it took him a year to score hundred i.e. from March 2011 to 16 March 2012.  The Master blaster was left trapped on 99 international hundreds for a year and four days and he was twice been out in the 90s after scoring his 99th century against South Africa in March 2011.

Tendulkar is the leading run-getter in both Test and ODI cricket. He has scored 15470 and 18, 260 runs respectively across the formats.

“I can’t think of anything at this stage, it has been a tough phase for me,” Tendulkar had said after reaching the milestone. “I started off the season well but was luckless. It does not matter how many hundreds you score, you still have to grind it out.”

“When I got the 99th century, no one spoke about it. I guess it was the media which started it. Everywhere I went people were talking about my 100th hundred,” he said.
