Australia’s great batsman and former Captain Ricky Ponting turns 43 today. Ponting alias Punter was born on 19 December 1974 in Townsend, Australia, Tasmania. Ponting lifted the World Cup for Australian team two times i.e. 2003 and 2007.

He scored over 13,000 runs in both formats of the game, and sits behind only Sir Don Bradman in terms of Australian batting records. Though his captaincy was marked with three Ashes losses, besides stumbles to India and South Africa, he remains the most successful captain in Test history.
He went onto to play 168 Test matches for Australia, scoring 13378 runs in the longest format of the game. He completed his Test career with an average of 51.85, with 41 Test Hundreds second highest after Sachin Tendulkar. He led Australia in nine consecutive Test series victories, a feat that the current Indian captain equaled recently. But won the 2006-07 Ashes, the only time he lifted the urn as captain.
