Rahul Dravid- the wall is a former Indian cricketer and captain, generally regarded as one of the greatest batsmen in the cricket history. Born in a Marathi family, he started playing cricket at the age of 12 and later represented the state team at the under-15, under-17 and under-19 levels. He is the one of the classical batsmen in Test Cricket that India has produced. No one can match his calibre i.e. he is known as Mr. Dependable in Test Matches. His greatest contribution to India has been his performance in away-series, where he has been the principal architect of several Indian wins. There was a time when Indian team looks not a supreme team without him. He is the batsmen who have scored more than 10,000 runs in both forms of international cricket – Tests and ODIs. Dravid’s attendance at No. 3 is most important for India. As he is the only batsman at the moment to have scored more than 10,000 runs at that position, and he did it at a superb average too, scoring close to 53 runs per dismissal. At No. 3, though, his home record was better – he averaged 54.81 in India, and 51.35 abroad. In overseas Tests excluding Bangladesh and Zimbabwe, his average at No. 3 fell to 48.75.
Dravid played 94 consecutive Tests since his debut in 1996, without missing a single match. Of this, he played 93 matches for India and one for ICC XI. He missed a Test match for the first time in 2005 at Ahmedabad against Sri Lanka due to gastroenteritis. This 94 consecutive Test match appearance streak since his debut was a world record at that time, which was later broken by Adam Gilchrist who appeared in 96 consecutive Test matches since his debut.
Criclineup Wishes him a Very Very Happy Birthday and a great year ahead. He will remain always in the heart of his fans.
