Day 4: Joe Root and Gareth Batty started the day on overnight score of 78/4. But Gareth Batty (0) didn’t last long on the crease as he was adjudged lbw on the bowling of Ravinder Jadeja in the 2nd over of the day; India got first breakthrough of the morning. Jos Root showed sum resilance in partnership by hitting couple of boundries early in the innings but soon he was caught by Ravinder Jadeja on the ball of sensation Jayant Yadav on 18.
In the meantime, Root held the innings and completed his 25th Test half century as he continued to play a single hand. He was well supported by the young Haseeb Hameed. Jadeja finally got the all vital wicket of Jos Root to drive India more rapidly towards victory in Mohali. However Haseeb Hameed was playing sensibly on one end and he was well supported by Woakes on the other end; duo added 43 runs partnership.
In a little while the partnership was broken by Mohammad Shami as he was caught behind on 30 runs by Parthiv Patel and another wicket in ver same over Rashid was out on a duck. Haseeb Hameed pressed the lead to cross over hundred as Anderson was ducking the other end both added 41 runs for 10th wicket. However, James Anderson was run out by Ravindra Jadeja as England collapsed on 236 in the 2nd innings to give India a target of 103 runs to win the match. Parthiv Patel’s aggressive unbeaten 67* was the keystone as the hosts chased down the target of 103 runs with an ease.
India completed a comprehensive 8-wicket win over England at Mohali to take an irrefutable 2-0 lead in the 5 Test-match series.
