Day 3: Usman Khwaja and Starc started the day on overnight score of 307/6 but Usman Khawaja’s match-revolutionizing innings ended when he was rapt lbw by Vernon Philander for 145 while Starc was caught and bowled by Kagiso Rabada for 53 to elicit the end of the innings. Last two wickets added just 26 runs on the board and Australia was all out on 383 and got the fetching lead of 124 runs. Stephen Cook and Elgar started the 2nd innings for South Africa but the start they were looking for was not provided by them as Elgar (0) was caught by smith on the balling of Starc. Amla was next batsmen on the crease, he has been a less dominant figure on this tour and, Both Stephan Cook and Amla added 81 runs on the board.
Amla become victim of Hazlewood for the fifth time in the series when he nicked behind and was caught by Wade for 45. Duminy (26) took the tourists past Australia’s mark with two runs but lost endurance at the velocity of scoring and attempted to play cross ways D a Nathan Lyon delivery and missed the ball totally.
Bavuma made 21 before he was caught by Smith on the balling of Lyon. Lyon was getting severe turn by now and still had time to remove night-watchman Abbott lbw for a duck to give the off-spinner data of 3-48 and diminished the South Africans to 194/6. South Africa is in big trouble as they just lead by 70 runs. Cook 81* and De Qock 0* were on the crease.
